Gunung Jati was established on March 20, 1971 with the principle goal to preserve Balinese culture especially music and dance.

The name originated from 2 words: Gunung, means “East” and Jati, means “Teges” Gunung Jati is a cultural organization of villagers who inhabit Teges and are members of Banjar Teges Kangin.
In addition to cultural preservation it creates collaborations, exchanges and cultural workshops, not only in Bali and Indonesia but also internationally.

Gunung Jati is located between Peliatan and Kemenuh villages, about 1 kilometer from the well known temple and tourist attraction of Goa Gajah.

We would like to take this opportunity and give special thanks to:
the late Anak Agung Gede Mandera and his family at Puri Kaleran;
the late teacher, I Made Lebah;
the late maestro of our village, I Made Gerindem,
Prof. Sardono W. Kusumo, whose kindness and enthusiasm inspired us to study and to keep traditional arts alive;
I Wayan Sudera, the head of our village for nearly 35 years (1964– 1999), for his dedication to preserve Semar Pegulingan; the Teges community; all others that continue to help us
